Bristol Museum, 9x12 oil

Painted plein air today in Bristol, and this is the back of the museum where we painted today. At least I THINK that's where we were! It was very beautiful, with this gorgeous house/museum and these black wicker loveseats with statuary and plants, and these amazing black and white striped outdoor curtains! So to photograph this wet oil painting I put it on the ground at home and the wind blew all these grass clippings and spirea leaves all over it! Hopefully when it dries I can just brush them off! I also worked on another, more colorful piece, which is only halfway done, I'll post it when it's complete.

Nice one, Kelley! As a good southerner, I LOVE porches (front and back), and this looks so comfy and inviting ... good job!

When you’re out painting in town like this, do people stop and watch you?

Karen, thank you. I love porches, too, and I love to paint them. Yeah, people stop by and weigh in on the painting. Usually I say "I'm just getting started!" or "This looks nothing like it will when I'm finished with it!" or some defensive remark! It is something you just grit your teeth and get used to!

That's a sweet painting. I love that museum. I signed up for a membership so I can be in their 'hang your paintings on the fence' show and was accepted. Are you doing it?
I get so distracted if people talk to me. Trying to get better at it. My discomfort prevents me from painting in some great, but very busy places :(

Mar, I have a show opening right around then at the Westport Rivers Vineyard, so I opted out - howEVER I urge people to go to this "fence show" as I know there will be some very good artists there! Good luck!
